Mario is a co-founder of EXR. As executive director, Mario is responsible for building the company's leadership team and business development strategy. He moved to New York City in 2006 as part of an Americorps program called City Year, where he worked with local Brooklyn communities to develop after-school programs, refurbish parks and playgrounds, and improve the local community. After a year at Americorps, Mario attended the State University of New York, majoring in Business Management and Economics.

During college, Mario spent nights in class while his days were focused on launching a hospitality startup. Within a few years, the group launched restaurants and entered into management agreements across New York City, the Hamptons and Miami. After moving on from hospitality, he launched a venture focused on providing capital and management services to small businesses and startups.
