Greenpoint

Overview

Greenpoint, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

Emerging from being known as a long time hub for shipping and manufacturing, Greenpoint, Brooklyn is being recognized as the new place for solid trendy appeal. Greenpoint is smoothly tucked away in Brooklyn’s northernmost region bordering Queens and north of stylish Williamsburg. Renown for being a strongly Polish neighborhood, Greenpoint has a lot of culture sewn into it from the people that come from Eastern Europe. Although there is a Polish aura resonating there, Greenpoint keeps up with Brooklyn’s artistically-inclined reputation. Designers, musicians, and collectors consider Greenpoint as a gem in their hands, viewing the unconventional boutiques and shops to be a goldmine. Rowhouses line up the blocks to give it an aged, but fashionable feel. For entertainment, Glasserie on Commercial St. is a fresh Mediterranean restaurant and lounge with a chilled atmosphere and authentically enjoyable cuisine. With a menu running from brunch to dinner, the options are endless for both meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. To have a hearty time with friends, t.b.d. on Franklin St. to enjoy live music, ping pong, and the (self-proclaimed) “largest beer garden in New York.” The community also works hard to preserve the cleanliness of the neighborhood. In 1950, the largest olil spill in the US released 17-30 million gallons of oil in the Newtown Creek. In 2006, because of continuous effort from the activist residents, 50% of the oil has been cleaned up. In Greenpoint, cancer rates are 10% lower than the rest of NYC and asthma is down 50% within the neighborhood. To get to this neighborhood, the G line is available along with multiple bus routes. The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway is readily accessible plus there’s a ferry that’ll take you across the East River into Manhattan. Greenpoint encourages a relaxed suburban feel minutes away from the city, but isn’t lax when it comes to sporting cultural wisdoms.
