Located in the northwestern region of Brooklyn, Downtown Brooklyn is the third largest business district in New York City with $9 billion of private investment and $300 million in public improvements underway. Some say it’s an extension of the upper west side with its abundancy of office buildings. It’s the center of Brooklyn and home to the landmark sports arena Barclay’s Center. In the late 1960’s and 70’s, citywide plans that combined both public and private efforts to stimulate construction in the area resulted in growth in Downtown Brooklyn’s economy, the creation of new office buildings, and also the revitalization of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Beneath all the hustle and bustle of this engaging city, it proximity to Manhattan doesn’t taint the small town suburban feel from its tree-lined streets and inviting restaurants. The Fulton Shopping mall is a vessel for people with more than a few items on their To-Do lists. For a lively night, try Kimoto Rooftop on Duffield St. It’s New York City’s first Asian rooftop beer garden with a heated outdoor terrace for an added comfort feel. You can expect at least two dozen types of beer (all imported from Japan) and a fusion of food settled in a natural and pristine environment. Amarachi is an exciting Caribbean restaurant on Bridge St. open from brunch through to dinner with a stimulating happy hour in between. Amarachi offers a large variation of dishes that’s sure to leave you satisfied. Downtown Brooklyn is home to Long Island University, St. Francis College, NYU’s school for engineering, NYC College of Technology, and many other institutions for higher education. Downtown Brooklyn is highly accessible with six subway stations and thirteen train routes making stops here. There are multiple bus lines and also a stop at the Atlantic Terminal on the Long Island Rail Road.
